President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the UN General Assembly’s Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.

The President described the development as a significant milestone for Nigeria and a timely achievement for the UN, which is currently navigating financial realignment and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and sustainability.

In his message, President Tinubu said Ibrahim’s election “validates his wealth of experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance,” noting his prior roles as a member of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations.Tinubu highlighted Ibrahim’s background as a legal scholar with expertise in international taxation and business administration, stressing that his intellectual acumen and deep understanding of global fiscal systems will provide “steady, strategic leadership” for the committee.

The President expressed confidence that Ibrahim’s appointment will not only enhance Nigeria’s standing at the UN but also contribute to the broader objectives of the world body. “Congratulations once again on this remarkable achievement and on the confidence reposed in you by the international community,” Tinubu concluded.

The congratulatory statement was issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
