Jimoh Ibrahim: Nigeria’s Strategic Voice at the UN Joins US-Nigeria Counterterrorism Talks
His Excellency, Ambassador (Sen.) Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, PhD (Cantab), Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, has joined the high-level Nigerian delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, at the United States-Nigeria Joint Working Group meeting in Washington, D.C.
Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim’s presence underscores the strategic importance of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement at a time when the country is strengthening cooperation with the United States on counterterrorism, defence and national security. As Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and an accomplished diplomat, lawyer, scholar and global statesman, his participation brings considerable diplomatic depth and international perspective to the discussions.
The meeting is focused on counterterrorism measures, progress made so far and the next steps in strengthening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States. A bilateral defence meeting is also scheduled for Thursday as both countries deepen their engagement on shared security concerns.
The Nigerian delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye. The United States delegation is headed by Allison Hooker, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
