Okeigbo Youth Parliament Commends Hon. Adebare Adeboye on Flood-Control Intervention

The Okeigbo Youth Parliament (OYP) has commended the Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, Hon. Adebare Adeboye, for his timely intervention in opening and clearing the Olori rivers along Igbolodumare Road, Quarry, Okeigbo, and Olori River in Surulere. The youth body described the initiative as a practical demonstration of responsive leadership and a significant step towards addressing the persistent flooding challenges confronting residents.
According to the OYP, the deployment of heavy-duty equipment to open the waterways will improve the free flow of water, reduce blockages and help protect communities, homes and properties during periods of heavy rainfall. The organisation noted that flooding requires preventive action, and that the Chairman’s decision to intervene before the situation becomes more devastating reflects a leadership style that prioritises the safety and welfare of the people.
The youth parliament further commended Hon. Adebare Adeboye’s broader commitment to environmental issues, noting that his administration has continued to recognise the connection between a clean environment, public health and community development. From environmental sanitation to the maintenance of waterways, the OYP said the Chairman’s efforts demonstrate that “health is wealth” and that environmental protection must remain a priority.
The OYP also urged residents to support the local government’s efforts by keeping drainage channels and waterways free from refuse and other obstructions. While government has a responsibility to provide infrastructure and respond to environmental challenges, the youth body stressed that residents also have a responsibility to protect the environment. It called for sustained monitoring, regular desilting and community sensitisation to prevent avoidable flooding.
Describing the intervention as “action, not just words,” the Okeigbo Youth Parliament said leadership is most meaningful when government responds when people need it. The organisation noted that the current intervention across different locations demonstrates an understanding that environmental challenges must be addressed comprehensively. It expressed confidence that continued attention to flood control and environmental management will make Okeigbo safer, healthier and more resilient.
The Okeigbo Youth Parliament therefore expressed its appreciation to Hon. Adebare Adeboye for what it described as a people-centred intervention and urged him to sustain the momentum. The OYP stated that when government acts early, communities gain confidence, and when leadership responds to the genuine needs of the people, it builds a legacy that goes beyond political office.
