Ileoluji/Okeigbo & Odigbo: When Adefiranye’s Work Speaks, the People Need No Interpreter

There is a moment in every political journey when the crowd falls silent and the record takes the microphone. That moment is now before the people of Ileoluji/Okeigbo & Odigbo Federal Constituency. The story of Hon. Festus Adefiranye’s first term is not a story that begins and ends on a campaign podium; it is scattered across roads, classrooms, healthcare facilities, empowerment initiatives and the lives of people who have benefited from his representation. When the work is visible, the worker needs no introduction; when the results are tangible, the people need no translation.

Take a road that was once a burden and is now a passage. Walk into a classroom that has been renovated and see the difference between neglect and renewed hope. Look at healthcare interventions and the communities they serve. Then turn to the youths who have found employment opportunities, the young people given opportunities beyond the shores of Nigeria, the women empowered to strengthen their livelihoods, the farmers supported in their trade and the students assisted to keep their dreams alive. These are not whispers from afar; they are footprints on familiar ground. And footprints, unlike rumours, show where someone has actually walked.

But here is the question: Must the people borrow somebody else’s eyes before judging what is happening in their own backyard? Must a constituent listen to murmurs from outside before looking at the road in front of his house? Must a parent be told whether a renovated school is better than the one that stood there before? Must an empowered youth be instructed on the value of an opportunity received? The answer is blowing in the wind, but the evidence is standing on the ground.

There is wisdom in looking inward before looking outward. As another electoral chapter approaches, let the conversation rise above political murmurs. Let it be about records, not rumours; projects, not propaganda; people, not factions; performance, not personality. Let every leader and every constituent look closely at what has been done and ask the simple questions: What changed? Who benefited? What can be seen? What can be verified? And where should we go from here?

The answer should not be dictated from outside. It should come from the people who live here because at the end of the day, a river does not need a spokesman to prove that it carries water. A fruit-laden tree does not need a herald to announce its harvest and quality representation does not need an interpreter when its footprints are everywhere.
