Workers’ Day: Ondo Govt to Regularize SUBEB Recruitment, Pledges Better Welfare
The Ondo State Government has announced plans to resolve irregularities in last year’s primary school recruitment exercise conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). Qualified applicants will be formally absorbed into the system.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa disclosed this on Friday while addressing affected candidates during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure.
He acknowledged complaints from applicants who received fake employment letters and assured them that their appointments would be regularised through due process, ensuring proper documentation and inclusion. Following his directive, SUBEB’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abike Bayo-Ilawole, instructed affected candidates to report to the board’s office on Monday to complete their recruitment and documentation.
Earlier at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, security, and overall development in the state. He urged workers to support ongoing reforms aimed at boosting productivity and delivering socio-economic benefits, stressing that labour remains central to governance and progress.
The governor highlighted key achievements of his administration, including:
- Prompt payment of salaries and allowances
- Implementation of cash-backed promotions without arrears
- Recruitment of about 4,000 workers across education, health, and agriculture
- Clearance of outstanding gratuities owed to 2018 and 2019 retirees, with a pledge to settle all remaining arrears
